The Importance of Dog Training

Dogs are known to show both the traits of being friendly as well as aggression. Dog training is vital to modulate the dog’s behavior.

If there is no proper training to your dog, there are high chances of biting incidents happening which in many cases may be to somebody in your family only.

Dog training is aimed at eliminating bad behavior, teaching the dog to show better hold on their feelings and emotions and to modulate their response to certain stimuli.

Dog training is however, easier said than done. You need to follow certain guidelines to get intended results. Experts believe "positive reinforcement" as the most important necessity to be implemented while training your dog. This means to say that dogs need to be rewarded with a treat, good words or in many cases both when they show good behavior.

This kind of positive reinforcement makes the dog associate good behavior with treats and praises. This will make them assume that whenever they show good behavioral response they will be rewarded with good words or treats.

However, the opposite is not true. If your dog shows bad behavior, this should not mean punishment for the dog. If you punish the dog, there is a tendency for the dog to have mixed feelings and confusion making matters worse.

Another thing to remember while training the dog is to know the proper method which you have to follow in order to avoid developing bad habits. There are many people who do not realize that their response to certain behaviors can influence the dog to take up such behavior and end up in wrong training of the dog.

An example for this is that dogs bark literally at anything and everything, strange or familiar. With proper training, you can make your dog stop barking for unwanted reasons as this can be highly irritating if it continues.

The common tendency shown by people in such an instance is to shout at the dog asking it to stop. This might confuse the dog as it may associate your shouting thinking that you are enjoying the scenario and you are expressing it through shouting and joining the dog in its barking.

In such a scenario, it is best to leave the dog alone without heeding to its barking. When he stops, you need to show your appreciation by providing a treat. In time, he will learn through positive reinforcement knowing that stopping barking is a good behavior that will bring in treats.

Remember, dog training is very vital to elicit good behavior in your dog. Also, training your dog is primarily through positive reinforcement and when done properly is bound to bring in good results and a well-behaved dog.
