Understanding Behavior of Dogs When Dog Training

Even though dogs are considered as our best friends there are instances of bad behavior that might really astound the owner of the dog. For this reason, it is very vital to have an understanding of the behavior of dogs to know why dogs show such conduct.

Good behavior can be inculcated in your dog provided it has been given the necessary dog training.

Adverse behavior is exhibited by your dog in reply to certain stimulating factors. In order to avoid such behavior, the owner of the dog should train the dog to respond to these factors in an appropriate way. Let us now check a few dog training techniques to do this.

Biting behavior in dogs is one of the commonest and most difficult problems encountered by dog owners. As per available statistics, there are about 5 million cases of dog bites in a year making this the second highest reason for emergencies within hospitals.

If we understand the reason behind your dog biting, it can be controlled. Experts believe that dogs bite due to many reasons such as:

Excitement

As dogs cannot clasp with their feet, they are more prone to clutch onto anything that they want with their mouth. While playing or when they are very excited, this behavior of clutching things with the mouth could unintentionally harm the person without intending to do so.

Protection

As shown by many humans, dogs can also be overprotective of their boundaries and the people they think of as their own. When they feel if the security of their area or people is in danger they may show their aggression by biting.

Pain

Dogs cannot express their pains and illness nor can they know what is making them feel ill. In such a condition, if they feel that anybody, including the master might cause the pain to aggravate by touching them the natural tendency will be to avoid it by biting.

Fear

Dogs too experience the feeling of fear. Fear responses are known to bring about the flight or fight response in humans. In dogs too we can see such a response where the fight response of the dog is to bite.

It is best to avoid putting your dog into such situations where they could bite. Many people who have no understanding of behavior of dogs will not know when it is best to leave the dog alone and end up getting bit. If you have a better understanding of your dog’s behavior you can avoid such situations.
