Tips for Better Dog Training

Dogs need good training in order to show good controlled behavior to help it adapt itself to your surroundings and your family.

There are certain important tips that need to be remembered while dog training.

Digging

Dogs resort to digging due to two reasons - either due to boredom or due to certain nutritional deficiency called Pica. A good way to avoid digging behavior is to spend quality time with the dog and to have a check with your vet to know if he has any nutritional deficiency that needs attention.

Toilet Training

This can be easily inculcated through positive reinforcement. Positive reinforcement involves rewarding the dog when they show good behavior by praising it or giving some small treats.

Repetitions

You need to provide your dog some time to enable them to learn what you are teaching. Dogs are like small children who will need to be constantly taught something before they actually learn it. By constant repetition, you can enable the dog to learn your commands and execute them.

Direct and Correct

You not only have to teach the dog what it has to do but make sure that you correct what it is doing if it goes wrong. If you are clear with your intentions, they will learn the right things.

Catch them Young

The earlier you teach dog training the easier it is for them to learn what you want them do. This proves the adage "You cannot teach old dog new tricks". So it is best to catch them young and train the dog when it is still a pup.

Show them Your are the Master

You need to develop a good rapport with your dog and should at the same time make it understand to your dog that you are the dog’s master. You need to show that you are not afraid of the dog if he snaps at you. This will show him that you are the authority and you will not tolerate such behavior.

Mimic Certain Behavior

It is important for your puppy to have something to chew on. This tendency is best controlled by using a proper chewable toy for it to play with. However, it is not uncommon for the pup to chew on your feet or fingers. In such instances, let out loud yelps similar to how the pup will react if troubled by other pups. After this, just ignore it for a little time. This mimicking will stop the pup from chewing on you but in some instances be vice versa. In such cases, you need to show an authoritative approach

By following the simple dog training advice above, your dog training efforts will be much more successful and result in a dog that is well mannered and more enjoyable to be around.
