Dog Training: Start with a Healthy Dog

Dogs are called ideal pets by many who have had them. Their friendly nature and their protective behavior has moved the hearts of many and influenced the lives of several people. Dogs will remain by their owner’s side through their thick and thin. They do not hold anything against the owner for ill-treating them and will not get influenced by your beauty or your riches. After all, Dog is called man’s best pal and this is definitely true. In order to have the best relationship with your dog, you need to undergo some degree of dog training with him. But even before that, you need to ensure your dog is healthy and happy.

Dogs depend on you for providing them a good home, food, regular exercise and your friendship and it is your responsibility as the owner to give it to them. Beyond these regular needs is the necessity for providing proper veterinary care.

Dogs need to be checked regularly by a veterinarian and needs to be vaccinated timely to provide protection against many diseases which they are prone to. Here is a list of diseases that can be prevented if your dog is regularly vaccinated.

Canine Adenovirus (Infectious Canine Hepatitis). This disease is highly contagious and spreads from infected dogs to other dogs through urine, eye and nasal secretions. This disease affects organs such as liver and kidney and damages the blood vessels. This can affect your dog at any age although it is more common in younger dogs.

Canine Distemper Virus (CDV) - This fatal disease is transmitted from an infected dog to another through contact. The disease can cause problems of the nervous system, respiratory or even the gastrointestinal systems. This disease also can affect the dog of any age.

Para Influenza (Tracheobronchitis) – This disease is again highly contagious and causes problems of the respiratory system. The dog elicits symptoms like coughing and gagging.

Parvovirus – This disease is extremely infectious and the dog shows symptoms such as diarrhea, fever and vomiting. The affected organs are the heart and the intestines and the white blood cells. This high risk condition is more common in dogs that are placed close to the infected dog such as in a kennel or a dog show. Fatality is common if puppies are infected.

Rabies – This dangerous disease not only is infectious in dogs it can affect any animal and even humans. It is contracted in dogs through bites from wild animals like bats, foxes, raccoons, skunks, etc. This disease is usually fatal and affects the brain.

Vaccination is therefore very vital to keep your dog free from such infectious diseases. As the owner, you are highly responsible to see that your dog is healthy at all times. A healthy dog is a happy one and is also more apt to pick up on and obey dog training commands.
